Stables and carriage house (now garages and flat), boundary
wall and gate piers. c1825. Architect JB Papworth, for Pearson
Thompson. Pinkish-brown brick with hipped slate roof. Stables
U-shaped on plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 3 first-floor windows. Casements
throughout, that to centre, ground floor is segmentally
arched. Ground floor has double plank doors to centre and
left, otherwise concealed by later range (not included).
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: wall with stone copings approx 2m high
and 10m long; irregular bond, adjoins 2 ashlar panelled gate
piers on plinths and with frieze with lozenge motif, cornice
and moulded caps.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Regent House was built by Papworth for
Thompson as his home.
Forms an architectural unit with Regent House, Montpellier
Drive and attached boundary walls and railings (qv). An
important example of a surviving carriage house to one of
Cheltenham's earlier (and provenanced) villas and a
significant streetscape feature.
