Terrace house. 1828.
MATERIALS: limestone ashlar, double-pitched slate roof with moulded stacks to left.
EXTERIOR: two storeys and basement, two-window front. Six/six-pane sash windows, those to first floor are tall. Coped parapet, coved cornice, first floor sill band. To right semicircular arch and fanlight with inverted fan glazing pattern over complex two-panel door with shaped hexagon to top. Repositioned metal railings flank door.
INTERIOR: virtually complete. Ground floor has two-panel doors, double doors between ground floor rooms, panelled shutters, moulded cornices, that to front room with frieze of convolvulus leaves and flowers to ceiling, high skirting boards with lozenge panels, reeded architraves with foliate blocks to upper corners, fine white marble fire surrounds with coloured marble insets. Entrance hall has egg-and-dart cornice and fine open-well, open-string stone staircase with moulded backs to treads, plain wrought iron balusters articulated by finely wrought iron panels and mahogany handrail. Basement said to have concealed bread oven.
HISTORY: house was built by Viner, formerly marble mason, for Captain Keegan. The Keegan family also had built Nos 5 and 6 to right (qv)
