Description

Earlier to mid 19th century with later additions and alterations. Symmetrical 2-storey with attic, 3-bay classically-detailed house, set on slope, forming end of terrace. Painted harl to front; harl-pointed sandstone rubble to side.

SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: timber panelled door centred at ground; bat-wing fanlight; round-arched, keystoned door-surround; single window centred at 1st floor beneath tympany gable at wallhead; surmounting stack. Single windows at both floors in flanking bays; sunk catslide dormers aligned above.

NE (SIDE) ELEVATION: single window at 1st floor off-set to right of centre.

NW (REAR) ELEVATION: not seen 1998.

4-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows to front; some modern, plate glass windows; modern dormers. Grey slate roof; stone-coped skews. Brick-built apex stacks; various circular cans. Coped sandstone stack surmounting pediment; single can.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

BOUNDARY WALL: heavily-pointed coped rubble wall partially enclosing site to front.

Statement of Interest

A well-detailed house, set prominently at the top of a hill which runs NE from Ayton's High Street.
