Mid 19th century. 4-storey and attic, 11-bay tenemental and commercial building. Cream sandstone ashlar, painted at ground floor, ashlar dressings some refaced with cementicious mortar, slate roof. Base course, corniced ground floor, cill band to 1st and 2nd floor, eaves course, corniced blocking course; round-headed windows with moulded heads and imposts to pilastraded and entablatured ground floor, corniced and margined (formerly architraved) windows to 1st floor, margined to 2nd and 3rd floor, round-headed bipartite in round-headed panel to 1st floor centre, bipartite to 2nd and 3rd floor above, mostly 4-pane timber sash and case glazing, some altered to 2-pane, original 2-pane to 3 centre bays, canted dormers; corniced ridge stacks.
FRONT ELEVATION: modern door to centre with moulded round-headed fanlight and sidelights recessed behind distyle in antis portico with Corinthian capitals and monogrammed tympanum, bipartite flanked by single windows to each upper floor; 4 bays to left and right each with door to bay at left, 4 windows to each upper floor; 4 dormers.
INTERIOR: not seen.
Chambers above were occupied by spinners (eg J and A Guthrie, John Laing and Sons, R G Kennedy) and textile merchants in 1874.
