Description

Early 19th century incorporating earlier fabric, with later alterations. 2-storey, 4-bay, symmetrical, rectangular-plan former house, set back from street, converted as shop at ground with offices above. Harled with plain cement margins to openings at 1st floor. Modern fascia with cornice course above between floors.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: 3 pairs of recessed modern, glazed, 2-leaf shop doors at ground; shop windows flanking. 4, evenly disposed windows at 1st floor.

12-pane timber sash and case windows at 1st floor; shop windows at ground; rooflights to E pitch. Grey slate roof; stone ridge; rendered, coped gablehead stacks to N and S; stone skews; thack stanes; uPVC rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: entire ground floor converted as modern shop, (Woolworth's); unseen above.

Statement of Interest

Much altered, this house retains a symmetrical arrangement at the 1st floor. In the 19th century it belonged to the Balfours of Trenaby.
