Description

Circa 1898; later alterations; Arts & Crafts lodge. Single storey square plan. Painted roughcast; raised cills.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: advanced bargeboard gabled entrance bay; timber door; 12-pane fanlight; 6-pane lights on returns; 8-pane lights in adjacent bays.

S ELEVATION: corbelled oriel window in right bay; adjacent single window; single bay modern addition at left.

W ELEVATION: blind face.

N ELEVATION: repeat of S face fenestration.

Small-pane casement windows. Piended Rosemary tile roof; deep bracketted eaves; ridge stack.

Statement of Interest

B-Group with Ashburnham House. This was formerly the lodge house for Ashburnham House. During the First World War it was one of the blockhouses barring entry into Queensferry. These blockhouses were constructed from sandbags with loopholes and roofed over for the comfort of the sentries. There were two other blockhouses in Queensferry, one at McIvors Brae and the other at Bankhead Cottages.
