Church of St Celynin

A Grade I Listed Building in Llangelynin, Gwynedd

Porch and Belfry

Uploader's Comments

The porch/belfry both date from the 17th century. A narrow slit in the wall allows the bell ringer to check for latecomers. To left is a Holy Water Stoup, in many church's richly sculpted, but here simply a boulder from the beach below. At one time the Stoup was reputed to never run dry. Both porch and belfry were possibly constructed in celebration of the restoration of Charles ll in 1660, the year the old bell was cast.
