A Grade I Listed Building in Llangelynin, Gwynedd

Benches

Uploader's Comments

The wooden benches in the nave record the names of the seat holders as they were in 1823 and the estates or lands by which they were titled. Some of the farm names persist in the area, such as Prysgau Uchaf, Rola, Tal y Graig and Llechwedd y Cefn. The benches show nine Esquires, nine Gentlemen and five clergymen who were parishioners in 1823.
On the benches at the back appear the names of farms only, these would be for men and maidservants. One bench for the poor was provided by Miss Elizabeth Thomas.
