Church of St Celynin

A Grade I Listed Building in Llangelynin, Gwynedd

Memento Mori

Uploader's Comments

Memento Mori on West wall dates from the Tudor period. It had been plastered over and was found during restoration work in 2003. The painting shows an upright skeleton holding a scythe in it's right hand and what appears to be a flaming torch in it's left hand. A skull and crossbones lie between it's feet and a spade stands beside it. A grim reminder that we are all mortal.
