Mary Dawson 1779, Monument to Mary Dawson d1779, All Saints Church, Long Whatton Monument in the form of a large white marble urn with flame finial and draped inscriptions, on marble pedestal with panels commemorating children. -To the Memory of Mrs Mary Dawson whose Remains are deposited in this Vault, the Wife of Edward Dawson Esquire and eldest Daughter of Joshua Grundy of Thornton in this County Esquire She died December 10th AD 1779 in the 36th year of her Age. Their issue were 2 Sons 2 Daughters, Henry, Sarah, Elizabeth and Edward. Her Fidelity, Affection, and Sincerity amiably distinguished the Wife, the Parent, the Friend and her Christian Profession was equally adorned with corresponding Virtues. To Heaven resignd the pensive Husband viewd/ Her slow but certain Fate whilst Infant Tears/ In artless Grief bewaild a Parents Loss.

(Hic sibi vivens monumentum nuncupavit) Henricus, Edvardi et Mariae Dawson Fil Natu Max qui vix Ann XVIII M II D X Relictis Edvardo fratre et Sara sorore moestissimis Ob. P Rid N Mart A.D. MDCCLXXXIX. My approximate translation: This is a monument to the life of Henry, Eldest Son of Edward and Mary Dawson who lived 18 years, leaving Edward his brother and Sarah his sister in deep mourning. He died on the ninth of March 1789.
