Atkins Dawson 1783. Slate ledger slab. Underneath lie the Remains of Atkins Dawson Esq. elder Son of Edward Dawson late of Longwhatton Esqr and Elizabeth his Wife He died October the 18th AD 1783 aged 56? Years. Arms, Quarterly 1 and 4 Azure on a bend engrailed argent three Cornish choughs proper (Dawson), 2 Azure a chevron engrailed ermine On a chief argent three martlets proper (Dawson). 3 Argent, two bars sable, three bezants in chief; Crest an arm erect; Motto Tendimus ad terram (descended from Rev Abraham Moulds MA Rector of Appleby, Leics).
