Public house. Possibly early C17. Rendered and painted slate stone rubble. Slate
roof; higher range on left with gable ends and lower range on right with hipped end
on right. Gabled end to rear wing. Stone rubble front lateral stack with brick
shaft on left, brick axial stack to rear of right hand range and projecting stone
rubble stack on gable end of rear wing.
Plan altered and original arrangement uncertain. Possibly of 2 room and through
passage plan with large left hand room heated by a front lateral stack and lower
right hand room heated possibly originally by a rear lateral stack which became an
axial stack when the rear wing was added. The service wing was probably added to the
rear of the hand room and through passage in circa mid C17, heated by a gable end
stack, thereby forming an overall 'L' shaped plan. The internal partitions have been
altered, the left hand range has been partly rebuilt and the roof raised and C20
extensions have been added to the rear of the left hand range. Several straight
joints in the masonry indicate alterations and there are 2 blocked openings in the
right hand range. Circa C19 single storey outbuildings to rear.
2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3 window front with ground sloping down to left and higher
range on right. Horned sash in blocked opening to left of front lateral stack,
blocked inserted opening in front wall of lateral stack and circa C19 stone rubble
entrance porch in lower range on right with lean-to stone rubble C19 extension
adjoining. First floor with 12-pane sash right of front lateral stack, 2-light
casement and 12-pane sash to right.
Interior : Slate flag floors. Roughly cut granite lintel to fireplace in rear wing.
Roof structure over higher left hand range renewed in C20. Roof structure over lower
right hand range with one circa C17 truss with morticed apex carrying a diagonal set
ridge; collar renewed and bolted. Roof structure over rear service wing not
inspected.
