House, divided into 2 in the early C19. C16 with early C19 alterations. Timber-framed, with old roughcast render in panels; old plaintiles to front slope of roof, C20 double Romans to rear slope and single-storey lean-to's. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and cellar; attic to No.3 only. 3 cell plan, jettied along street frontage, with an additional half bay at the north end. A large internal chimney-stack and an end stack on the south. Both have tall plain rectangular red brick shafts. 5 irregularly spaced sash windows to the upper storey, all 12-pane in flush cased frames. On the ground storey No.2 has a deeper 12-pane sash window and a small-paned tripartite sash with diminished side-lights and moulded cornice. 2 similar tripartite sashes to No.3. 2 slightly recessed entrance doors, each with a rectangular fanlight and moulded architrave, 6-panel to No.2, formerly with 2 leaves, 6 flush panels to No.3. A small lower unjettied section at the south end encloses the end stack. INTERIOR: No.2 has a cellar which extends partly below No.1 (qv), which adjoins on the north. Rubble flint walls with old render; renewed ceiling. The principal ground-storey room is in 2 bays with a heavy chamfered main beam and unchamfered joists set flat. Fireplace with stone jambs, double ogee-moulded with the moulding continuing across the cambered timber lintel. On the upper storey, a smaller fireplace has stone jambs with roll-mouldings which continue across the cambered timber lintel and a rounded back with the remains of red ochre colouring on the render. Beside this stack, a blocked upper doorway which formerly led to No.3. There are discrepancies between the framing of the front and back walls, with evidence of alterations at the rear which indicate an older core to the range. A plain crown-post roof, with the crown-post braced to the collar-purlin only. The half bay at the north end was probably originally hipped. No.3 has less framing visible than No.2 but the same indications of alterations on the rear wall of the upper storey, with blocked original windows and main posts with empty mortices. The ground storey fireplace in the end stack has a large chamfered lintel with curved stops and stone jambs. One

cross-beam exposed has small supporting arched braces. The attics, approached by a stair in the small unjettied south end, are rendered and apparently have a side-purlin roof.
