Formerly known as: No.1 SYDNEY COURT.
House, now in use as offices. Early C18. Brick with Welsh
slate roof.
3 storeys, 5-window range with 6-panelled door in architrave
with Ionic columns to right of centre, and inserted sash
windows to its left. Segmental heads of original windows also
visible. Added canted bay window to right of doorway. Upper
windows are 4-pane sashes with segmentally-arched heads to
first floor, flat heads to second, suggesting insertions.
Continuous sill bands. Gable end stacks, and an added stack to
front.
Rear elevation has central door giving access to external
staircase added late C20, flanked by canted bay windows which
are later additions. Upper windows are sashes of 6 and 12
panes, with flat-arched heads and are clearly insertions. 3
gabled dormers in the roof, coped gable to left.
The building incorporates the remains of an early C18 town
gaol, together with Rodney House and the Old Police House
(qv).
