Junior school, former board school. c1895. Squared, snecked
Pennant rubble, limestone ashlar dressings, double Roman,
plain and decorative ridge tiles. Symmetrical block with
classrooms each side of central hall. Free Gothic style.
Single storey and attic; side facing Ashton Gate Road a
5-gable range, end gables with three 2-light ground-floor
windows with trefoil heads, and attic dormers. Middle bays
have wide centred hoods containing 4-light mullioned windows
with trefoil heads and a rose window over, formed by 7
circular lights; finials to gables. The opposite elevation has
3 gables flanked by a deep hip terminating in a flat roof;
gable ends have wide 2-centred relieving arch over 4-light
windows with king mullions, and finials to the gables. 3
lanterns on the ridge where the gables cross. Open timber
arcaded store backing on to North Street. INTERIOR: central
full-length hall with classrooms off each side and an end
stair. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: iron railings on dwarf walls to
Ashton Gate Road.
