Probably early C18, altered. Formerly the Manor House of Speenhamland. Two storeys
and dormers. Double fronted with 5 windows. Tiled roof. Stucco front with
moulded eaves cornice. Three flat-topped dormers, sashes with small panes. Early
C19 fenestration with recessed sash windows with glazing bars; ground floor
windows with sidelights. Modern prostyle portico with Tuscan columns and dentil
cornice; panelled door. At rear, brick staircase projection flanked by 2 gabled
wings, one being stuccoed the other in late brick. Interior with early C18 stair-
case with closed string, newels and renewed balusters. The Willis map of 1768
shows this house as freestanding with elaborate formal gardens at the rear and an
axial tree-lined avenue on the opposite side of London Road.
