House, now shop and flats. c1818-30 with later additions and
alterations including extension to rear and mid-C20 ground
floor shop front. Pinkish-brown brick in Flemish bond with
painted stucco dressings, concealed roof and cast-iron
balcony.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys, 2 first-floor windows. First floor: tall
6/6 sashes; second and third floors: 3/6 sashes; all with
plain reveals and rusticated heads with keystone. Tall end
stack with cornice, to left. Continuous first-floor balcony
has Caron Company double-heart-and-anthemion motif.
INTERIOR: to second and third floors a dog-leg staircase with
remains of stick balusters. Ground and first floors have
mid-C20 interiors.
HISTORICAL NOTE: the Parade was so named in 1860. Originally
Lillington Lane, it was renamed Union Row c1809 then Union
Parade by 1814. The lower section was of the road was laid out
and built c1810-18, the upper section, west side was built
1827-1840. Built as houses, hotels and lodging-houses, most
had become shops by 1850.
