Inn and shop, now house and shop. C17, with C19 and early C20
alterations. Painted coursed stone rubble. Plain-tiled roof
with old tiles over No.54. Integral brick ridge and gable-end
stacks. Rectangular plan parallel to street with rear
extension wings.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Street front with 4 small-paned metal C19
casements to first floor; 2 late C19 3-light wood mullioned
and transomed windows to ground floor left and early C19
double 6-panel doors with fielded panels, all contained
beneath a moulded wood fascia on consoles. Late C19
plate-glass shop front and glazed panelled door to No.54 to
right.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
No.56 was known as the Britannia Inn until c1895.
