SO57SE Lychgate to Church of St Mary

GV II

Lychgate. Early C20. Oak frame on coursed stone rubble plinth.
Plain-tile roof. Single clasped-purlin roof between 2 trusses.
Trusses with straight tie beam, collar and struts with cusped
brace below tie beam. 2 wall-frames with paired long straight
braces set on plinth with chamfered top. Pair of timber gates
with top, mid, and bottom rails braced with steel bars set on
pin hinges. South-west truss has timber plaque with
inscription: 'ERECTED BY THE PARISH OF CAYNHAM/TO THE GLORY OF
GOD/AND/IN LOVING MEMORY/OF OUR DEAD/1914-1918'
