School. Dated 1834. Coursed stone rubble. Slate roof with
bargeboards with pierced pendant fleur-de-lys decoration,
small bell-turret with pyramid slate roof and finial. Simple
single-storey 3-bay hall.
EXTERIOR: gable front with inserted first-floor mullion window
over recessed inscribed stone tablet with hoodmould. Doorway
with chamfered reveals, cambered arched head and stepped
hoodmould, beaded boarded door. Left side: 2 mullion and
transom windows with multi-pane lights under keyed stone
lintels with stepped hoodmoulds, flanking central 4/4 sash,
all with tiled sills. Opposite side masked by C20
prefabricated extensions. Rear gable: large 2-mullion and
transom window with timber lintel and vestigial hoodmould.
INTERIOR: 2 king-post trusses with hammerbeam bracing. Double
purlin roof with boarded ceiling. Inscription on front gable
tablet: CAYNHAM/NATIONAL SCHOOL/ERECTED/1834
