Detached house. Late C18 and mid C19 with C20 additions.
MATERIALS: Limestone rubble, slate roofs.
PLAN: Earlier range has broad mansard roof to high gabled ends, and lateral stack, attached at right angles, lower, later wing, in two gabled units to central valley.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys and attic, plain sashes, earlier range has single above two close spaced sashes, and return to left has two blocked lights above various lean-to and other additions. Large stack to right in rubble, raised in ashlar, originally external. North end of range has wide canted bay with plain sashes, to entablature, and small attic light. Coped gables have very slight break in line to roof in quasi-mansard form, ridge in stone tile. Lower wing has two wide-spaced plain sashes in flush surrounds at each level facing Calton Road, and on double gabled return has two sashes with straight cavetto drips above small canted bay with flat roof and C20 door, partly under the flat roof to large garage extension. Either end, at eaves level, Corinthian capital built in corbel fashion.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
HISTORY: Taller range reputed to have been mill building, and also to be known as "Pope's Villa".
