Wall monument to Elizabeth Dawson d 1765, Church of St Michael and All Angels, Appleby Magna. Inscription: Deo Optimo Maximo. Near this Place are deposited the Remains of Elizabeth, Wife of Edward Dawson, Esquire, the only surviving Child of John Wilde, Gentleman, by Anna, youngest Daughter of the Reverend Abraham Mould. She, as Niece and Heir at Law to Thomas Mould, Isaac Mould, Joseph Mould, Daniel Mould, Elizabeth Mould, and Mary Mould, Was possessed in Fee of the Patronage and Advowson of this Church; Together with divers Freehold Lands and Tenements In the Counties of Leicester, Derby, Stafford, and Warwick. With these and other Accessions of Wealth, She was not high-minded, But preserved great Humility In her Station of Life. She was a woman of unaffected Piety, strict Probity, and great Affability, An indulgent Parent, a sincere Friend, a tender Mistress. She spent her Life in constant Expectation of Death, And died in the most easy and composed Manner, On Sunday the 9th day of June, 1765, In the 75th Year of her Age; Leaving two Sons and two Daughters. Edward Dawson, Her younger Son, as a Token of his Duty, Great Affection, and Gratitude, Hath caused this Monument to be erected to her Memory. (Photo Sept 2015).
