The effigy is sculpted wearing mail,and his legs are crossed at the knee. So he is a knight, and has been on a crusade, or at least funded more than one campaign. Six children are in panels beneath, facing outwards. The lively vigour with which they are shown may indicate they survived him. (Photo Oct 2010).
