Sacred to the memory of the Honourable Ronald George Elidor Campbell, Captain, 1st BatTalion Coldstream Guards of which he was Adjutant for seven years. Born 30th Dec 1848. Served in the Zulu War as Staff Officer to Colonel Sir Evelyn Wood and fell on th Zlobani Mountain 28th Mar 1879. -in the performance of a most gallant deed- He was buried where he fell by his comrades in arms -under the fire of the enemy-. -Nullus Secundus- (He never came second in his efforts). The lower part of the monument has on the left a military star, and in the centre, Arms for Campbell of Cawdor: Quarterly, 1st, Or, a harts bead cabossed sable attired gules, for Calder; 2nd, Gyronny of eight or and sable, for Campbell; 3rd, Argent a lymphad oars in action sable, for Lorne ; 4th, Per fess azure and gules a cross or, for Lort. Impaling (for his wife Katharine Susannah) Claughton: Per chevron embattled, in chief Ermine, two fleurs de lys, in base A tower, proper. (Photo Oct 2010).
