This end of the tomb chest was against the wall for more than a century, although the shields were detached and displayed. The shield on the left is that of Countess Catherine. The now blank space would have been densely populated with her ancestral coats of arms. She was daughter and coheiress of Henry Pole, Viscount Montacute, son of Richard Pole, KG and Margaret his wife, Countess of Salisbury, daughter of George, duke of Clarence, and heir at length to Edward Plantagenet, Earl of Warwick, her brother.
