Wall monument commemorating the resetting of the 2nd earls tomb chest. Urn with inscription: I. H. S. Theophilus comes Huntingdon inclytae memoriae progenitorum maxime illustrium, quorum exuviae hic reconduntur, sacellum hoc decorari, et tumulum instaurari, pro munere extremo F. F. MDCXCVIII-. My translation: In the name of Jesus Christ. Theophilus, earl of Huntingdon in memorial celebration of a very illustrious ancestor, whose remains are concealed here, will embellish this chapel and restore the tomb chest, for his dying gift. Made by my order, 1698-.
In a round shield immediately under the urn which surmounts the monument are these arms:
1. Argent, a maunch sable, (Hastings). 2. Per pale dancetty gules and vert a chevron or, (Hungerford de Heytisbury). 3. Sable two bars argent in chief three plates, (Saint John, used by Hungerford). 4. Barry of six ermine and gules, (Hussey). 5. Azure three garbs argent a chief or, (Peverell). 6. Argent three toads erect sable. (Botreaux). 7. Or a griffin segreant gules, (Botreaux of Cornwall), 8. Or three pales wavy gules, (Mauduit). 9. Argent two bars gules in chief three torteauxes, (Moels). 10. Or three torteauxes, in chief a label of three points azure bezanty, (Courtenay). Crest: on a wreath, a bulls head erased sable, gorged with a ducal coronet, armed or.
On a large shield immediately under the .above: 1. Quarterly, i, Hastings; ii. Hungerford; iii Heytisbury; iv. Hussey. 2. Peverell, 3. Botreaux. 4 Botreaux of Cornwall. 5. Mauduit. 6 Moels. 7. Courtenay: Impaling, 1. Quarterly, France and England, a label of three points argent, on each point a canton gules, (George Plantagenet, Duke of Clarence), 2. Per pale or and sable, a saltire engrailed, counterchanged, (Pole). 3. Gules a saltire argent a label compony argent and azure, (Nevil Earl of Salisbury and Warwick). 4. Gules a fess between six cross crosslets or, (Beauchamp Earl of Warwick), 5. Chequy or and azure a chevron ermine, (Newburgh), 6. Argent three mascles in fess gules, (Montacute). 7. England within a border argent, (Holland, Earl of Kent, for Edmund Plantagenet of Woodstock). 8. Or an eagle displayed vert armed gules, (Monthermer). 9. Or two bars gules in chief three torteauxes, (Wake). 10. Quarterly i and iv Or three chevronels gules, (Clare), ii and iii Grandquarterly, Argent and gules in 2 and 3 a fret or, over all a bend sable, (Spencer). Supporters Dexter a manticore or, Sinister a griffin.
