Listed Buildings in Margam, Neath Port Talbot

  1. II 2 Grove Cottages
    Located on the E side of the lane which leads to St Mary's Abbey Church. The W gable end of the building faces the road.
  2. II 3 Grove Cottages
    Located on the E side of the lane which leads to St Mary's Abbey Church. The W gable end of the building faces the road.
  3. II Aberbaiden
    Located on the S side of a lane which runs E from Pen y Bryn towards Tondu.
  4. II Almshouses
    Located on the S side of the lane which leads off the A48 to St Mary's Abbey Church. The almshouses are opposite the churchyard entrance.
  5. II Arch over Culvert
    The culvert receives water from the cascade to the NE, beyond which is the lake. The ground slopes down sharply to the S but becomes flatter where the water passes underground.
  6. II Barn at Eglwys Nunydd
    Located on a farm track which leads E off the street and curves round to the N. Further N and set apart from the farm house and associated farm buildings.
  7. II* Beulah Calvinistic Methodist Chapel Photos
    Located at the N end of Tollgate Park.
  8. II Broadwalk Steps
    Located near the W end of the broadwalk, E of the orangery and chapter house. The broadwalk rises up to the E with Margam Castle as the focal point.
  9. II Cart Shed, Stable and Cow-House at Ty'n y Cellar
    The stable is located in the centre of the N side of the farm complex. Its NW angle is abutted by the L-shaped cow-house and cart shed, which enclose the cattle yard.
  10. II Churchyard Walls and Gate Piers to St Mary's Abbey Church
    Enclosure walls to a large, roughly rectangular churchyard to the N of the abbey church. It projects round to the W and incorporates the entrance gates.
  11. II Citrus House Photos
    The citrus house is prominently located in Margam Park to the NW of the orangery. It faces S towards the ornamental pool.
  12. II Cwm Cottage
    On a track which runs R (close to A48 junction) off the lane to the abbey church. The track was formerly a road running along the S side of Margam Park, but is now a cul-de-sac.
  13. II Entrance to Twyn yr Hydd and Flanking Walls
    Located in Margam Park. The driveway from the A48 leads to the entrance to Twyn yr Hydd, which is on the E side of the house.

    Located to the NE of the house at the bottom of the sloping garden. Approached by a separate driveway.

    Located in front of the Citrus House and facing the ornamental pool which is to the SE.

    Located on the N side of the farm complex with the house to the E.

    Wall enclosing a rectangular garden on the N side of Twyn yr Hydd house.

    Forming an enclosure in front of the entrance to Beulah Chapel. Alongside the road.
  19. II Gateway and Quadrant Walls Leading to Twyn yr Hydd
    Inserted into the boundary wall of Margam Park which runs along the N side of the A48. Twyn yr Hydd can be seen to the rear.
  20. II Granary at Ty'n y Cellar
    Part of the farm complex at Ty'n y Cellar. The S gable end of the range faces the lane which leads to Kenfig industrial estate. The house is to the E.
  21. II* Hen Eglwys
    Located on the hillside, Graig Fawr, north of Margam Park. Accessed by a footpath which leads SW off the road along Cwm Bach. In a prominent and spectacular position.
  22. I Ivy Cottage including Facade of Former Banqueting House Photos
    Located along the N boundary of the gardens, N of the Orangery and SE of the kitchen gardens. The facade faces W into the park, whilst the cottage is outside the park boundary.
  23. II Kitchen Garden Wall and Glass House at Twyn yr Hydd
    Runs N from the NW angle of the farm building at Twyn yr Hydd, but not quite joining it. The E boundary of the former kitchen gardens.
  24. II Kitchen Garden Walls including Vinery Glasshouse Photos
    The kitchen garden wall forms the N boundary of the gardens and flanks the lane leading to the abbey. A wall at right angles runs S to the Vinery Glasshouse.

    Located at the end of a track which runs N off Marlas Road, Pyle. N of Llanmihangel Mill Farm.

    Located N of the Afon Cynffig on a track which leads off Marlas Road in Pyle. Part of Llanmihangel Mill Farm.

    Located in a high and prominent position at the E end of the gardens in Margam Park. Approached from the SW by a new drive.

    On a track which runs R (close to A48 junction) off the lane to the abbey church. The track was formerly a road running along the S side of Margam Park, but is now a cul-de-sac.

    The centre-piece in the gardens at Margam Park. The abbey remains are immediately to the NE, with the broadwalk leading up to Margam Castle further E.

    Located on the N side of the road which leads to St Mary's Abbey Church. A further lane runs to the rear up towards Cwm Bach. In a slightly raised position with a retaining wall to the front.

    Located immediately outside Tollgate Park against the boundary fence.

    Located on a grass verge in front of a hedge with Coedhirwaun to NE.

    Prominently sited in front of the boundary wall of Margam Park.

    Located on a bank in front of the boundary wall of Margam Park. Surrounded by vegetation.
  36. II* Monastic Baths
    Located on the W bank of the Afon Cwm Bach, on the E side of a track. To the N, the track bends round sharply to the E, over the river, and on to Cwm Maelwg Farm.
  37. II* Old Park
    The road runs SW off the A48 and the house is at the end.
  38. II Ornamental Pool
    In a prominent location in Margam Park, diagonally below the Orangery to the E and the citrus house to the N. Surrounded by lawn and tulip trees.
  39. II Pair of Gate Piers to the Former Margam House
    Located on a large grassed area on the R side of the driveway leading into Margam Park. The cricket pitch and pavilion are further to the R.
  40. II Piers and Gates at East Lodge and Flanking Walls
    Located near the SE corner of Margam park on a narrow lane which leads up to Graig Goch and Ton Mawr. Flanked by lodges.
  41. II Retaining Wall adjoining Citrus House
    The wall runs E and links the Citrus House with the almshouses and Ivy Cottage.
  42. I Ruined Undercroft at St Mary's Abbey
    Located to the S of the Chapter House and E of Margam Orangery.
  43. I Ruins of Chapter House and Vestibule of St Mary's Abbey Photos
    Located in a central position in the gardens at Margam Park, to the NE of the orangery.

    Set back from Water Street at the junction of a lane which leads to Kenfig Industrial Estate.
